Planning a luxury Italy itinerary

A practical starting point for a bespoke journey: choose fewer bases, make room for what matters and confirm the details before you travel.

A memorable journey is not a collection of reservations. It is a sequence of stays, transfers and experiences that fits the people travelling. Before choosing a villa, a yacht or a private flight, agree on the pace of the trip and the moments you want to protect.

01

Start with the people, not the map

Write down your dates or date range, number of guests and the purpose of the journey. A family holiday, a celebration and a cultural escape call for different rhythms. Note mobility needs, dietary requirements and whether children are travelling; share only the details needed to plan safely.

Choose two or three priorities—perhaps a private residence, signature cuisine or time on the water—and separate essential requests from optional additions. A budget range, with a clear indication of what it must cover, is more useful than an unexplained total.

02

Choose your bases before your experiences

Treat every change of accommodation as part of the itinerary, not as empty time. Packing, check-out, the transfer and arrival arrangements all take space in the day. For a shorter stay, one base with selected outings can be more comfortable than several consecutive moves.

For a longer journey, group experiences around each base. Compare a residence-led stay, a cuisine-and-culture itinerary and a mobility-led journey before combining them. These are planning approaches, not fixed packages or promises of access.

03

Plan the whole transfer, door to door

Compare the journey from your accommodation to the next destination—not only flight time or time on board. Ask how airport handling, luggage, ground transfers, embarkation and arrival will be coordinated. Confirm the passenger count, luggage requirements and any accessibility needs for the proposed vehicle.

Private jets, helicopters, chauffeur-driven cars and yachts serve different purposes. Availability, operating conditions and the route determine what is feasible; none should be assumed until confirmed. Keep a flexible alternative for weather-dependent activities and avoid an important appointment immediately after an uncertain connection.

04

Turn a wish list into confirmed arrangements

Distinguish a suggested experience from a reserved one. For dining, a cultural visit, a yacht day or a celebration, request the date, location, inclusions, exclusions and confirmation status. Private access and specific venues should never be treated as guaranteed before verification.

Before accepting an offer, check which accommodation, transfers, meals, activities and extra charges it includes. Read the payment schedule, cancellation terms and conditions for substitutions or changes. Ask who will coordinate a revised plan if an activity cannot go ahead.

05

Leave room for the destination

Build around one meaningful anchor experience rather than filling every hour. Leave uncommitted time for a long lunch, rest or a spontaneous change. After a major arrival or transfer, a lighter programme may work better than another time-sensitive reservation.

Dates influence demand and suitability. Check opening schedules, local events, seasonal operations and transport arrangements for the actual travel period with the relevant providers. Do not rely on a generic itinerary for current availability or entry requirements.

06

The brief to send your concierge

Include your date range, guest count, preferred destinations or starting point, budget scope, essential experiences and desired pace. Add arrival and departure details if known, luggage requirements, dietary or accessibility needs, and your preferred contact language.

Ask for a proposal that separates confirmed arrangements from options still to be checked. Aurea's public catalogue brings together experiences, luxury mobility and concierge services; the final itinerary, prices and availability must be agreed for your particular journey.

Before you approve the itinerary

  • Dates, guests and the pace of each day are agreed.
  • Every transfer includes departure and arrival arrangements.
  • Reservations are labelled as confirmed or still pending.
  • Inclusions, extra costs and cancellation terms are clear.
  • Weather-dependent plans have an agreed alternative.
  • You know your contact person and the agreed contact language.

Regions and onward connections

Italy's official tourism portal describes distinct regional landscapes and rail links between major cities, with regional and intercity services reaching smaller towns. Use this as a starting point for choosing your bases, then verify onward connections with the operators for your dates.
